1. Why did you start your own business?
• I identified a definite opening in the market, wanted to make money and thought just go for it.

2. What do you like best about being your own boss?
• In a word : Independence

3. What do you dislike most about working for yourself?
• Well more than one word needed here; no fixed hours, no security, need to watch everything & everybody all of the time.

4. Name three things you would do differently if you were starting again?
There are a number of things I'd do differently including more research. I would have worked in a similar environment for a year or two. I would have tried to get a big financial backer.

Adrian McGovern - McGovern Memorials

Adrian was a skilled stonemason from an early age, learning the trade from his father in the family business, McGovern Memorials. Today both father and son manage the business together from their premises just outside Dromore. Adrian's sculpturing skills mean that he is regarded as one of the best in the trade, but his involvement in the management of the business, led to his position as a finalist in the 1998 Shell Livewire NI Entrepreneur of the Year Awards.

The company is based on the guarantees of quality designs and products while maintaining impeccable customer service. In addition to supplying all types of granite, limestone and marble, the company has two specialist fields of work - the supply and erection of headstone memorials, grave surrounds and renovation work, and the letter engraving and restoration of stone memorials. An interest in Celtic design is evident in much of their work and one of their most outstanding undertakings was the design and crafting of a large sandstone cross, to be mounted in Fermanagh's Knockninny Parish as part of their Millenium Project.
